The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage announced the launch of the research competition on Arab Hunting and Horsemanship, as part of the activities of The International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition - Abu Dhabi 2009 (ADIHEX), scheduled to take start on 30th September until 3rd October; and is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Emirates Falconers’ Club (EFC).

“The contest aims to open new horizons for Arab researchers, motivate them to address issues related to hunting and equestrian, and document our rooted heritage with studies and research,” said Abdullah Al Qubaisi, ADIHEX Event Director.

It also aims to “raise awareness on the conservation and protection of the environment, in addition to safeguarding our Arab Gulf heritage,” he added.

ADIHEX promotes the use of hybrid birds in captivity for the sport of falconry as a substitute for the endangered wild falcons, making Abu Dhabi a unique attraction for many visitors and exhibitors.

The Exhibition’s Organising Committee had already received a high number of applicants wishing to take part in the contest from across the Arab World.

“The considerable interest in the contest is part of the huge public attention given to ADIHEX at all levels,” said Al Qubaisi.

As part of the conditions for participating in the research contest, applicants are required to address an aspect of Arab hunting and equestrian, whether single or combined.

Contesters, who can be of any nationality, are required to submit their research papers in Arabic, printed on 20-50 A4 page format.

The research must be recent and unpublished. It also must not have won any previous awards.

Three copies of each research paper must be submitted to the Organising Committee, in addition to the researcher’s CV. The contest’s organisers reserve the right to publish the winning research paper.

Submitted copies of research papers will not be returned to their authors, and decisions by the Organising Committee are final and not subject to appeal.

The deadline for participation is on the 1st of September 2009, and application forms can be downloaded from the Exhibition’s website: http://www.adihex.com/.

ADIHEX is organised by the Emirates Falconers’ Club (EFC)  in cooperation with Turret Middle East with support from the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH).
